Frequently Asked Questions

A Note to Families

Exploring support for your child can bring hope, uncertainty, and many questions. Many families arrive here after long waitlists, confusing systems, or experiences that did not feel aligned with their values.

At Insightful Growth Pathways, we believe support should feel safe, respectful, and collaborative… for children and their caregivers alike. These questions are here to help you understand not only what we do, but how we do it.

  • Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) is a science-based approach to helping children learn meaningful, functional skills and reduce barriers that make everyday life more challenging.

At Insightful Growth Pathways, ABA is used to support:

    • communication & speech (spoken language, AAC, gestures)

    • emotional regulation and coping

    • play and social connection

    • daily living and independence

    • transitions and routines

We focus on skills that improve quality of life, not surface-level behaviours.

  • ABA has a complex history, and it is valid to have concerns.

At Insightful Growth Pathways, we practice modern, ethical, neuroaffirming ABA. This means:

    • we do not aim to change who a child is

    • we do not force compliance

    • we do not suppress stimming, communication styles, or identity

Our work focuses on supporting regulation, communication, independence, and participation while honoring each child’s autonomy, sensory needs, and dignity.

  • No.

Our approach is child-led and consent-aware. Therapy is built on trust, relationship, and responsiveness. If a child is overwhelmed, dysregulated, or communicating “no,” we listen. Regulation and safety always come before skill-building.

  • Absolutely not.

We believe autistic and neurodivergent children are whole, capable, and worthy exactly as they are. Our role is to reduce barriers—not change identity.

ABA at Insightful Growth Pathways is about:

    • supporting communication and emotional regulation

    • building skills that make daily life more accessible

    • increasing independence, confidence, and participation

We work with children, not on them.

  • Families are true partners in care.

You know your child best. Your values, priorities, and lived experience guide everything we do. We collaborate with you to:

    • set meaningful, realistic goals

    • share strategies that fit real family life

    • adapt plans as your child grows and changes

You will always understand why a skill matters and how it supports your child’s wellbeing.

  • ABA here is gentle, relational, and holistic. Our work blends behavioural science with:

    • play-based and naturalistic learning

    • sensory-informed strategies

    • trauma-informed and culturally responsive care

    Sessions often look like:

    • playing and shared activities

    • building predictable routines

    • practicing communication in real moments

    • learning regulation and coping skills

    • celebrating progress—big and small

Therapy should feel human, calm, and respectful, not rigid or clinical.

  • Clinical programming at Insightful Growth Pathways is led by a Master’s-level Behaviour Consultant with advanced graduate training in Applied Behavior Analysis and early intervention.

All services are delivered within a formal supervision structure, with ongoing oversight provided by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) while clinical hours are accrued toward certification.

Your child’s programs are developed using:

    • evidence-based ABA principles

    • neuroaffirming and trauma-informed practice

    • developmental and family-centered frameworks

    • ongoing data review and collaboration with families, schools, and other professionals

This ensures your child receives both individualized, hands-on care and professional clinical oversight aligned with international ABA standards.

  • Master’s-level Behaviour Consultant is a clinician who:

    • holds a graduate degree in Applied Behavior Analysis or a closely related field

    • has completed formal coursework in behaviour assessment, intervention, and ethics

    • is accruing supervised clinical hours

    • works under the supervision of a certified BCBA

This means your child’s care is guided by an advanced clinician who is actively practicing and refining skills with expert oversight.

  • Direct therapy may be provided by trained Behaviour Technicians or support staff working under Behaviour Consultant and BCBA supervision.

    They:

    • build strong, trusting relationships with children

    • support learning through play and daily routines

    • collect information to guide programming

    • communicate regularly with families and supervisors

Your child is never working without professional oversight.

  • We move at a pace that feels supportive and manageable.

    Step 1: Connection & Discovery
We begin by learning about your child, your family, and what matters most to you.

    Step 2: Assessment & Planning
Through observation and collaboration, we identify strengths, needs, and meaningful goals—created with you.

    Step 3: Beginning Support
Therapy begins with relationship-building. Skills are introduced gradually, with ongoing communication and review.

You will never be left wondering what is happening or why.

  • Costs vary depending on services and frequency.
